Zion Project - Bringing Heaven to Earth

Thursday November 10, 2011

"Every 90 seconds, a woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth. Most of those deaths are in the developing world."

"The best way to fight poverty and extremism is to educate and empower women and girls."
- Nicholas Kristof, Half the Sky

Girls rule

WHY GIRLS RULE

Baby emmy

Today, I am thankful that God created women. That He created them to bring life, to encourage, to build, and raise the next generation.

More and more I am convinced that the work we are doing is pivotal in this point in history.

Never before have more girls been alive on the planet.

"The total global population of girls ages 10 to 24 —already the largest in history — is expected to peak in the next decade."

and never before have they been more exploited, abused, and destroyed.

But this is not our destiny.
God created girls to lead a revolution of love and to reveal the most tender part of His heart.
He created us to shake nations.

And God wants the abuses to end. We are His hands and feet. It is up to us to change our world.

When you change the life of a girl/woman, you change the future.

Today, I am thankful that one life we rescued (Nancy) has had the courage to give birth to a new life, and that He has a calling in God's Kingdom all his own. Today Emmy lives because we were here.

And because of God's redemption, Nancy will not be a 14 year old mother, who was raped. But just a girl who has her self-esteem, who gets to go back to school.

Today lives were saved because you cared enough to give. So this Thanksgiving we are thankful for you!

Read more about Emmy's story here.

And you can sponsor a girl like Nancy here and write a new future for the girls of Africa.

WE'RE THANKFUL LIVES HAVE BEEN SAVED!

"Thanksgiving only becomes thanksliving, when thanksgiving to God overflows into a joy of giving."
-Ann Voskamp-

As we seek to extend God's love here in Uganda, we have seen Him move in miraculous ways.

Our community of women is ever growing.

Our Imani ladies have become such leaders in the slums, offering love and assistance to those who need it. On one of our outreaches, we came across a pregnant woman named Bijou who was abandoned. She was 3 weeks overdue and HIV positive.

If she had remained at home, her and the baby most likely would have died.

Through our love, medical intervention, and your financial support, Bijou gave birth to a baby girl and has joined our women as a new sister. Read about Bijou here.

Our Imani women also demonstrated love when another woman lost her child. They stood with her in solidarity and we were able to get another little girl, Zabibu, to the hospital in time to save her life. You can read about her here.

We feel so blessed that we are able to do this work every day--to see God's Kingdom extended--and we are so thankful to you that you enable us to do it.

HELP US GET A VAN!

We were thrilled to be able to move our kids into a NEW HOME with more space in SEPTEMBER!

And are also only too excited that Pst Ron & Joy are opening up a new school in Gulu in February and we can't wait to send our children there to receive QUALITY education.

"Out of the world’s 130 million out-of-school youth, 70 percent are girls."

We are so happy our girls will not be part of that statistic. But we need your help!

We desperately need a VAN to transport our girls to this new school as it's too far to walk. We have raised $4,000 of the $20,000 we need. Consider giving today.

HAVE A PARTY AND WIN!

Inline Image

In addition to being rock stars, our women have been creating a WINTER LINE of JEWELRY FOR CHRISTMAS with some beads from Karamoja, one of the most remote parts of Uganda. I know, we said we were going to stop. But we just can't because every day more women come to us needing to escape prostitution and poverty!

Plus, we have a FABULOUS new designer named Bre Mason, who is with us for a year to help our women in developing their own cooperative.

So you lucked out! Our winter line has already BEEN SHIPPED back to the USA and will be available in December online and for JEWELRY PARTIES.  But don't let that stop you!

Go online today and start buying your holiday gifts that have a purpose!

ALSO ONE HUGE WAY YOU CAN HELP US, is by HOSTING A JEWELRY PARTY! Just email beads@zionproject.org. Not only are they tons of fun, but they help us keep our women earning an income. We would like to be able to hire another woman this year.

If you earn the most money from a Party from Nov 26-Dec 3oth, you can win a piece from our EXCLUSIVE KARAMOJA LINE!

Why? Because...

"When women and girls earn income, they reinvest 90 percent of it into their families, as compared to only 30 to 40 percent for a man."

GIVE AS WE'VE BEEN GIVEN

The Christmas Holiday Season is the time when we raise the majority of our budget for the coming year.

The only way we are able to operate our Rescue Home of 16 precious restored girls, Imani employment program & Counseling Center, and our Kingdom Outreach programs, and Medical care for communities, are through YOU!

We have been so blessed to be able to pay our staff every month, but as we have growing pains, our faith must also increase that God's provision will be there.

We hope to grow our home into 20 girls this year.

The cost of sponsorship is less than the cost of a cup of coffee each day.

Please consider the following ways you can give:

A time for everything under heaven

Inline Image

The last few months have been so incredibly busy, stressful, wonderful, exhausting, and redemptive. I feel like I've barely had time to breathe. I'm currently at home taking care of a 2-day old infant named Emmanuel. So yeah, life has been crazy!

God's put it on my heart to take a time of rest to dream with Him again. To that end, I'll be taking a mini-sabbatical from Dec-March and will be State-side seeking God, enjoying my family, and being filled.

If you know of a restful retreat, or place for me to stay, please let me know. Otherwise, it will be great to catch up over a cup of coffee!

God has really answered my prayers in sending over Chloe Jordan in January, who will be my Assistant & our new Administrator and taking over for me while I'm gone. You can read more about her here.

love,

Sarita
